POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
BUoY
At the BUoY art space in Kita-Senju, the cafe on level 2 serves cassata, with its pleasing mix of dried fruit and nuts, alongside coffee. Drop in before or after an exhibition or performance.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
One playful option is “read-aloud coffee”: when ordering, you say the menu item’s name out loud. Some visitors enjoyed that small ritual, which can make for an easy conversation starter in BUoY’s cafe. For something sweet, consider the cassata. Described here as a Sicilian dessert, it left an impression on one diner for the texture of its dried fruit and nuts; they also found it not too sweet.
Some visitors enjoyed Assam tea, while others chose coffee with a dessert terrine. There are also comments on the pudding and cream soda, making the cafe a place to take a break over a drink and something sweet before or after seeing an exhibition. The cafe is on level 2 of the art space, with a basement venue used for performances and live music. One visitor noted traces of the building’s former life as a public bathhouse. The cafe is therefore less a standalone dining destination than a place to pause during a visit to see the art or experience the space.
Whether you can enjoy a quiet coffee may depend on the day’s exhibition or event. Some visitors found it peaceful, while others felt it might not suit those seeking a quiet cafe. On a day when you want to take in the art space as well, cassata and coffee are an option.
